Survival Kit Recommendations

The following are the recommended "absolute basic essentials" for any survival kit. Not anyone wants to be lost in the wilderness but if it were to happen to you or your family isn't it always best to be prepared? We've only put the basic kit ingredients here and would STRONGLY recommend you visit the sites listed below regarding this important topic on wilderness survival.

Minimum Essential
Wilderness Survival Kit Items

-High quality pocket knife with at least two cutting blades 
-Pocket compass 
-Strong needles - sailmakers, surgeon's, and darning 
-Match safe (plastic or metal container) with waterproof matches 
-Assorted fish hooks in appropriate containers 
-Small hank of wire for making animal snares 
-Needle nose pliers with side cutters 
-Bar of soap containing physohex 
-Small fire starter of pyrophoric metal 
-Personal medicines, if appropriate 
-Water purification tablets 
-Band aids 
-Insect repellent stick 
-Chapstick

More than simply a survival manual this book teaches some excellent skills for living in the bush as well. Also check out "Primitive Wilderness Skills, Applied & Advanced" by the same author where he takes you further explaining about the life threatening hantavirus found in the woods in addition to teaching skills such as - wilderness nutrition - brain tanning robes & furs - building a 20 foot long dugout canoe done with only stone tools. Both books are an excellent resource for the outdoor enthusiast.
