Resources For Colic
I've assembled some resources for colic which may be of help to some of you out there. My main goal in drafting this colic section was to empathize and try to help others who are experiencing what I am going through with my first and only child. Remember, you are not alone --- AND, more importantly --- you are not to blame.

Stops Crying - Heartbeat Music Therapy CD #1

We have this CD in our baby-soothing tools. It doesn't always work putting baby to sleep but it sure has calmed my own nerves a time or two. I've almost fallen asleep listening to it. It's highly recommended by health-care providers.

Himalayan Goji™ Juice - I wish we had this juice when we were going through the entire colic period. It has a unique side effect ...made from the goji berry which is well-known as the "happy berry" ...it has many benefits. I recommend 1 ounce of juice mixed with 4 to 6 ounces of water for baby's bottle. For parents, to help deal with the stress, drink 2 ounces morning and night. You'll notice the difference within the first week ... some notice it within their first night. Oh ...and it's delicious. Enjoy!

Dill Tea - this site describes how to make dill tea which is said to aid in the reduction of gas, a common side-affect of colic. (Fennel and Anise are both said to help too.)

Homeopathic Remedies for Colic in Babies - an interesting site with alternative healing methods which may work for you.

AskAPot.Com - more alternative healing methods on colic.

International Chiropractic Pediatric Association - believe it or not, they say chiropractic care can work for infantile colic. Here's a good site to read all about it.

Ocean State Online - an excellent medical resource site, they also have good information on the subject of colic.

Children's Medical Center - an excellent source for child-specific information on GERD as well as many other medical difficulties.

On A Personal Note
To a great degree colic is still a mystery as to how and why it develops. Considering how many babies are affected by it I find it rather sad that the medical profession hasn't been more pro-active in its research on this subject (in my humble opinion). Surely after years and years and years of its existance there should be help available for it --- a solution --- a cure?

I guess I can understand why it is such a difficult problem to diagnose when you consider all the possible causes (only a few of which I've mentioned in this article), however, here's the real "kicker" to this whole story. I had colic as a baby. Now, 40 years later, my one and only child has to go through what I went through as a baby. Is there a connection? Who knows for sure... we'll probably never know. After all, it seems to go away on its own as the child gets older, doesn't it? Hmmmm... I wonder about that.

Take heart my fellow colic-baby-parents, it will pass. And when it has passed, drop me a line and order the Parent/Child matching T-Shirts --- "I Survived Colic" --- I'll surely have a few cases made up by then to cellebrate.
