Leonardo: The Artist and the Man
by Serge Bramly, Sian Reynolds (Translator)

First published in France, Serge Bramly's acclaimed biography reveals Leonardo to be as complicated, seductive, and profoundly sympathetic as the figures he painted. Bramly spent five years gathering evidence to reconstruct the artist's life--from his early years as an illegitimate child to his death in the arms of the King of France. Four pages of color photographs; 75 B&W photos.

"The most praiseworthy form of painting is one
that most resembles what it imitates."
~Leonardo Da Vinci~

So who was Leonardo Da Vinci?

Very Briefly - he had a keen eye and quick mind that led him to make important (yet unpublished) scientific discoveries,  he was said to be a gentle vegetarian who loved animals and despised war - yet he worked as a military engineer to invent advanced and deadly weapons, he was one of the greatest painters of the Italian Renaissance, yet he left only a handful of completed paintings.

But there is so much more to the man behind the paintings...

The many many sketches he left behind reveal the curious mind he had and the visionary abilities which shone through, creating many inventions that were never built but rather re-invented at much later dates. They prove how far ahead of his time he was.
