November
Birthstones & FlowersNovember ~ Topaz, Citrine ~ Fidelity
Topaz: The most common Topaz has a radiant yellow color, but it can also be found in shades of green, blue (see December), and brown. Topaz is mined in the United States, Mexico, Brazil, and Sri Lanka. It is said to be an empathetic stone that gives out its warm glow quite readily - also said to be an excellent stone for relaxation and comfort. (Information provided by The New Age Club.)Early Egyptians thought the golden glow of topaz eminated from the sun god Ra. Today, it is the color of the sky in blue topaz that makes it a favorite of modern jewelry. Many gems come from Brazil, where they are known as pingos d’agoa, drops of water. Greeks believed topaz boosted strength and rendered the wearer invisible in times of trouble. Topaz was even said to cure insomnia and have the power to cheer one’s mood. Pale to medium-blue stones mix well with pastel fashions. They also contrast appealingly with darker shades.
Also Citrine: Think of "citron," French for lemon, when you think of citrine’s color. But also imagine wearing the deep amber of vintage sherry, and you adorn yourself with yet another shade of citrine. Well affordable, citrines look especially good as pendants and ring stones. Citrines enhance most jewelry styles, blend with gold and may be ordered in both small and large sizes. Darker stones are more sought after, but many like the way the lemony hues complement pastel colors.
Your Flower
November is represented by the chrysanthemum (better known as mum) and can be grown in most flower gardens (although I haven't had much success with them). Generally they are also considered the Mother's Day flower of choice owing to their name and you'll find them readily available at that time of year in most stores and flower shops.
